He continued to seek God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding through the vision of God; and as long as he sought (inquired of, longing for) the Lord, God caused him to prosper. God helped him against the Philistines, and against the Arabs who lived in Gur-baal, and the Meunites. In Jerusalem he made machines of war invented by skillful men to be put on the towers and on the [corner] battlements for the purpose of shooting arrows and large stones. And his fame spread far, for he was marvelously helped until he was strong.
2 CHRONICLES 26:5, 7, 15 (AMP)
So I read about this king, and his story really intrigues me. Kind of reminds me of Saul. He was a man who inquired of the lord and would never do anything out of Him. But then times passed by, his fame increased and he became highly sought after and you want to know what he did after?.
Let’s read this verse then:
But when Uzziah became strong, he became so proud [of himself and his accomplishments] that he acted corruptly, and he was unfaithful and sinned against the Lord his God, for he went into the temple of the Lord to burn incense on the altar of incense.
2 CHRONICLES 26:16 (AMP)
Yeah, he became proud that he felt he could do the priestly duty as well since he was the king. And the sad part is that he suffered much loss. He went from an A+ rank to the lowest rank ever. It was that bad.
Do read this verse to see the result of his “exalted state of mind”:
Then Uzziah, with a censer in his hand to burn incense, was enraged; and while he was enraged with the priests, leprosy broke out on his forehead before the priests in the house of the Lord, beside the incense altar. King Uzziah was a leper to the day of his death; and, being a leper, he lived in a separate house, for he was excluded from the house of the Lord . And his son Jotham took charge of the king’s household, judging and governing the people of the land. So Uzziah slept with his fathers [in death], and they buried him with his fathers in the burial field of the kings [outside the royal tombs], for they said, “He is a leper.” And his son Jotham became king in his place.
2 CHRONICLES 26:19, 21-21, 23 (AMP)
He met with a great demotion as he was finally buried in a field (a common field unlike the other kings). A king in that time had tombs they were buried in. Which was specially kept and maintained for their kings. But because of his silly act, he lost his throne likewise his place of final rest. May we not lose our rightful position in God because of disobedience in Jesus’ name. (Amen)
So my short admonition is for us to take to heart this king’s life as we examine ourselves likewise. We shouldn’t become so satisfied and fed full in God that we now then seek to break ranks (seeking another’s calling in which he or she has been given the grace to function in; which obviously you as a person lack because that is not it for you) and bend His rules and instructions. Instead we ought to stay within the God zone (our place of His pursuit and His calling for our individual lives).
Your chase after another man’s race (calling) can cost you so much more than you can ever think of. Just as we read of this king. He was king (that was his call) but wanted to do another man’s calling (the priest) and his end was worst of.
So dear reader this is a callback or a caution for us, not to run another man’s race. Stay within your God zone and never get to the point where you then feel all self-sufficient – I can do all by myself. God is our only sufficiency and it’s only in Him that we can do all things.
I can do all things [which He has called me to do] through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfill His purpose–I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.]
PHILIPPIANS 4:13 (AMP)
His sufficiency in you lies in your calling just as we have read above. Stop running a blind race; and lose out of the glorious end/rest He has planned for you and I. 🙌
Do have an amazing week. 🌸
