🍁 WITH MASTERY ALONE OR WITH GOD? 🍀

Then Saul said to David, “You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight him. For you are [only] a young man and he has been a warrior since his youth.” Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear, and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them since he has taunted and defied the armies of the living God.” Then he took his [shepherd’s] staff in his hand and chose for himself five smooth stones out of the stream bed, and put them in his shepherd’s bag which he had, that is, in his shepherd’s pouch. With his sling in his hand, he approached the Philistine. The Philistine said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with [shepherd’s] staffs?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, a spear, and a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have taunted.

1 SAMUEL 17:33‭, ‬36‭-‬36‭, ‬40‭, ‬43‭-‬43‭, ‬45 (AMP)

I had to quote the referenced verses in this write up for a reason. 🙂

Okay, so while I was reading one evening, David’s story as stated in these above verses crossed my mind.

David is just one man I love – his bravery, courage, etc. He is just a blessed man!.

He faced the giant, not even the skilled men in the Israelite’s army at that time could face. But then looking closely at it, David couldn’t have been able to achieve this victory alone too, you know. Beyond all the mastery he had been exposed to by experience as a shepherd boy, he knew he could only have achieved it by God’s involvement. Even when he referenced him killing the lion and bear, that tried attacking the herd of sheep he was tending to; he mentioned that it was God that granted him the victory.

Many times we love seeing ourselves being the cause of a good result we get or have had. But the reality is we could never have achieved that on our own. The children of Israel can attest to this while on their journey to Canaan land (the land of promise) and I also can attest to this. Because there are some things I can do now that people very close to me, believed otherwise but then God believed I could and now I can!. 🙌

Dear reader, it could seem like you have put in a lot of work and you deserve some praise at least yeah. Definitely, you do. 🤗 But then you and I would need to pause briefly and read together the verses stated below:

Then they returned to Joshua and said to him, “Do not make all the people go up [to fight]; have only about two thousand or three thousand men go up and attack Ai; do not make the entire army go up there, for they [of Ai] are few.” So about three thousand men from the sons of Israel went up there, but they fled [in retreat] from the men of Ai. The men of Ai killed about thirty-six of Israel’s men, and chased them from the gate as far as [the bluffs of] Shebarim and struck them down as they descended [the steep pass], so the hearts of the people melted [in despair and began to doubt God’s promise] and became like water (disheartened).

JOSHUA 7:3‭-‬5 (AMP)

Did you read that?. Without God in the picture, the children of Israel faced such great shame and defeat. Despite their efforts and number.

But the story changed, when He (God) was back in the picture; after the trespasser was out of their midst.

Israel has sinned; they have also transgressed My covenant which I commanded them [to keep]. They have even taken some of the things under the ban, and they have both stolen and denied [the theft]. Moreover, they have also put the stolen objects among their own things.

JOSHUA 7:11 (AMP)

AND

Now the Lord said to Joshua, “Do not fear or be dismayed (intimidated). Take all the men of war with you and set out, go up to Ai; see, I have given the king of Ai, his people, his city, and his land into your hand. Then the Lord said to Joshua, “Reach out with the spear that is in your hand [and point it] toward Ai, for I will give it into your hand.” So Joshua reached out with the spear in his hand [and pointed it] toward the city. And all who fell that day, both men and women, were twelve thousand, all the people of Ai.

JOSHUA 8:1‭, ‬18‭-‬18‭, ‬25 (AMP)

This is really the case of “If God is for us then who can be against us”. Please never lose sight of the God behind the scenes. It is forever by His Grace and mercies and not our own strength or efforts. I believe you know that?. So many things remind us of this daily. As there are many people with great grades and achievements but still not achieving their full potential. 😐

As much as we put in our efforts. Let’s never forget the God who is in care of perfecting it all; the God behind the scenes – working it all out for our good. God bless your heart!.

  10. David was a man acccording God’s heart and trusting Him. He was aware of the power of God to work through him and kill the giant, not by his own strenght but God’s. He is a good exemple, I am currently reading a devotional about his life… I wish you a happy new year!
