🗣 WORDS 🙊

Whisper - Talking

It’s amazing how this, which is made up of a few letters, is able to have such great effect; positively or negatively in one’s life.

I would say that for everyone, and for you reading this, we all have been at the receiving end of this – words.

I was reading a book and one of the chapters focused on the effect of words in a relationship. And I couldn’t help but reflect on this too. I have been a victim of this in some way and I had some of these words become ghosts from times past, as it kept on taunting my mind for a long time.

All thanks to God I am able to get past a lot of these. And confessing God’s words when it rages in my thoughts has really helped me a lot.

So before I share the anchor scripture that got me through it. I would want us to reflect on this verse:

Do not let unwholesome [foul, profane, worthless, vulgar] words ever come out of your mouth, but only such speech as is good for building up others, according to the need and the occasion, so that it will be a blessing to those who hear [you speak].

Ephesians 4:29 (AMP)

I hope we read this verse, meditatively. I know a lot of us have erred in time past but it’s never too late to try again. We can learn to breathe through a heated argument and also ask for the help of the Holy Spirit to enable us to speak graceful and wholesome words always.

Don’t leave a lasting mark in that heart just because you belong to the sect of people that believe in “Let me say it how it is”. Imagine if Christ’s response on the cross was to call us a bunch of sinners; a crowd of unfaithful men and women or even the disloyal disciples?. Which in reality, was the case. 😪

But rather Jesus’ approach was this:

And Jesus was saying, “Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.” And they cast lots, dividing His clothes among themselves.

Luke 23:34 (AMP)

He prayed!. Like who does that?.

And I would say that defined the perspective of His own kind of love. Hope we know He was God in flesh, so He could have acted in response to all the betrayals, but rather, He chose to pray for us. 😪

Jesus chose grace - Prays over us - the cross

If you and I have chosen the path of faith by confessing Christ and believing in Him. Then our mouth should be tamed. Really, it should!. Because we have Him as our helper guiding us in all truth.

Don’t be part of the people who speak their mind all the time, not minding if it will cause more harm than good. Only a fool does that and that is so not in my words, it’s in the Bible. 👇

Reference text:

A fool vents all his feelings, But a wise man holds them back.

Proverbs 29:11 (NKJV)

I know a lot of us still battle with words from our past or even those from the present. Ghosts from times past I call it. I remember these words lived in my mind for years – “you are useless”. And some others, God has been rooting out of my system. All I know is I chose and will continually choose to bring these words in subjection to His. And yes, it took me a while to get past it, but I didn’t stop telling myself my new language. Which is Christ’s words for me? And that for me is the only thing that defines me.

New language - new identity - Believe

I didn’t get to this place in a day. Sometimes, regardless of the many voices, I still choose to do what I need to do on some days. I take it a day at a time as He is teaching me to.

So back to the verse He used as an anchor in my word crises:

We are destroying sophisticated arguments and every exalted and proud thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought and purpose captive to the obedience of Christ,

2 Corinthians 10:5 (AMP)

And,

We use our powerful God-tools for smashing warped philosophies, tearing down barriers erected against the truth of God, fitting every loose thought and emotion and impulse into the structure of life shaped by Christ. Our tools are ready at hand for clearing the ground of every obstruction and building lives of obedience into maturity.

2 Corinthians 10:5 (MSG)

I had to break down this verse as I applied it to my situation. And then I started confessing my new identity in Christ Jesus. Because no matter what, God’s words over me are still what holds me and have made me. Not anyone’s.

Guard Your heart - negative words

I pray that we will all find the grace to overcome through God’s words and constantly embrace our new, in Christ Jesus. 🙏

No matter what anyone has said to you – close or not. That is so not you. Our only reality is God’s word. And yes, you may not even be near it presently, that is, seeing the physical manifestation of His words in you, but you can get there. If only you would believe His words in your life!.

God's words - our identity

So you may have been told “you are no good” or “you don’t matter” or “you are always wrong”, etc. I chose these examples randomly as led to. Whatever the negative word that has been hauled at you or is still being rung in your ears every single time. That is not you!.
You are Christ’s and the only thing you can be is Him – God’s words. (John. 1:1)

Blessings. 🙏

Do have a calm new week. 🤗

I know so many Christians who will say whatever they want and not even care. Very few say, I’m sorry Lord or I can’t believe I said that, forgive me. I don’t get it. I mess up sometimes, and when I do I ask for forgiveness.
We just need to slow down and think before we speak.
    Great post and God Bless

  10. I love your anchor scripture. We read this in church last Sunday and what pinched me hard is, PEOPLE HEAR ME SPEAK and they need to be blessed by my words. wow!!

Do not let unwholesome [foul, profane, worthless, vulgar] words ever come out of your mouth, but only such speech as is good for building up others, according to the need and the occasion, so that it will be a blessing TO THOSE WHO HEAR [you speak]. Ephesians 4:29

Secondly, I love the way you have brought out the fact that people loose their identity because they define themselves based on the standards of this world which is so fleeting. Today someone will validate you and then tomorrow they don’t.

We should only find our identity in Christ and His word, Imagine desiring validation from human beings who live today and tomorrow are dead?

I will leave this two scriptures that defines me so badly maybe someone too might decide to own them.

Song of Solomon 4:7 – You are altogether beautiful, my darling; there is no flaw in you.

Psalm 46:5 – God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day.

The book of Proverbs has a lot to say about words. This is one of my favorites: “The right word at the right time is like precious gold set in silver” (Proverbs 25:11 CEV). I love that image! As i depend on the Holy Spirit for his inspiration and direction, my words of encouragement, wisdom, inspiration, etc. can offer golden treasure to another–and perhaps replace some of the garbage-words they’ve received elsewhere! A thoughtful, helpful post, H.C!
