My Snowy Day ❄️ ⛄️

A snowy morning

I woke up on this particular morning, with the usual rush of getting my son ready and out of the house for his daycare.

I have always loved snow but on this particular day, I just wasn’t feeling it. Maybe because I was in the house and I didn’t really go check it out even though my hubby mentioned to me, that it was snowing a lot. 🫣

A side gist – when he told me it was snowing a lot, I sarcastically said “Good for it (the snow)”. 🤣 Who says such, if not Mercy. 😅🙈

Anyway, fast forward to some minutes later when myself and my son were exiting the house. I saw the snow “myself” and all of that indifference flew out of my head. I just stood there looking at the heap of snow and smiling sheepishly. 😅

There is a huge difference when we step out and see things for ourselves. 📌

Never underestimate the power of your vision. 💡

Snow in the Netherlands

I stepped out of the house and… I struggled a bit with pushing my toddler son in the stroller for the first minutes. First, I wasn’t used to it snowing to this extent. This is like a once in a winter season kind of snow in the Netherlands. 😁

Second, it really felt like I was pushing a mower. All that extra energy on a Monday morning. 🤣

Anyway, we were not about to go back into the house, so I continued pushing. Go mummy go! 😁💪🏽

Then, my picture-loving self kicked in, and I decided to take another picture of the snowed park where I usually walked past. But then I resorted to taking a video instead.

Snow at the playground

And some minutes afterwards, I successfully pushed myself and my toddler’s stroller to the house of the childminder. I really felt like taking a victory dance. 🤣💃🏻

After some minutes of chatting with her and the other kid there, I made my way down to the house. This time without the stroller. So I had more time to focus on the reactions of people, as I walked through the neighborhood.

First, the kids loved the squeaky sound it made, when running or walking on the snow piles. And it made them giggle a lot. It was such a pure joy to see them grinning this much.

The kids also made tons of snow balls and were just busy playing and enjoying the snow – they were maximizing the once in a winter opportunity. 💡

Second, the older folks were busy doing something else – either standing and looking at the kids playing. Or scrapping off the snow from their car’s windscreens. And some walking along briskly – trying to get somewhere I presume.

The difference in the older folks reactions, and the younger folks reactions (myself inclusive because I was absolutely running on the snow at some point with the kid at the child-minder’s place.) I’m a child at heart after-all! 😅

…..okay back to the difference I noticed. Yeah the difference is quite interesting in my perspective. And one I couldn’t help but write about.

And while I was almost at my doorstep, I said to myself – “A snowy day sure makes a difference”. At least to the children, it did. 🙂

And maybe we can learn from them. That God has given us all these things – nature, seasons (with its changes) and everything else we interact with, for us to enjoy it. 💡

This is a reminder or possibly a nudge to remember to listen to what’s around you. 📌

Try to get off your mobile phones and just look at all the beauty around you. 📌

Try to take a pause while walking past a park and just observe what’s going on. 📌

Try to take those stops and momentary rests, in the midst of the busyness of life and adulthood. And simply take in the beauty, that God has surrounded you with. 📌

Life is still beautiful, if only you’d choose to look around you. 🤍

So let’s be like the kids – not losing sight of the beauty that surrounds us. And choose to enjoy the beauty in the moment.

And just maybe this is part of the reason Jesus mentioned this in this verse: 👇

”and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.“
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭18‬:‭3‬-‭4‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Don’t be all grown-up on God. 📌🙂

And yes, I enjoyed my snowy day. It was definitely cold, but I absolutely loved it. 😊
