❕Choices 💭

Choices

A while ago, I was reflecting on our walk with God as Christians. How it all starts with salvation, how our sins are forgiven and remembered no more and how He has called us to be His sons and daughters.

And in the process of my reflections, I realized that there is a common factor for us in this, and that is “choice”.

Okay let me explain how this comes into play. Jesus said unto us – “Come, all ye who are weary and heavy laden…..” yeah. The action there is “come”. It’s a choice for us to come to Him just as He has asked us to, and to allow Him take up our burdens. 👇🏼

“Come to me all of you who are tired. You are like people who have worked for a long time. You are like people who have carried heavy things. Come to me. If you do that, you will find a place to rest. Do what I teach you to do. Listen to my message and learn from me what is true. I am very kind and I do not make myself important. I will help you. Then you will have peace in your mind.”

Matthew 11:28-29 EASY

Another reference to the aspect of choice, is – “Come boldly to the throne of grace…..”. This also involves a decision to “come” to Him so as to receive the strength and mercy He has supplied for us in our times of need.

“So, we should come near to God and we should not be afraid. God is our King. We can ask him to help us when we need help. We know that he will forgive us and he will be kind to us in whatever way we need.”

Hebrews 4:16 EASY

Another part of the Bible I want us to look at is this:

“Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear; but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.”

Isaiah 59:1-2 ESV

God isn’t far from us or unreachable or inaccessible. Instead, it’s our sins that keeps us away from Him. So it’s a choice we have to make – Either for us to continue living in sin and risk widening that gap sin creates between us and God. Or we desist from sinning, and come nearer unto Him.

To buttress how sin takes one farther away from the good God wants us to enjoy in His presence, do read this verse: 👇🏼

“Therefore justice is far from us, and righteousness does not overtake us; we hope for light, and behold, darkness, and for brightness, but we walk in gloom.”

Isaiah 59:9 ESV

Do we continue in sin and expect grace to abound? No! Romans 6:1-2

Personally, there have been several choices I have had to make in my Christian walk. And the most recent one that I’m still milking, which I believe people close to me would have heard me use severally is – ‘choosing to trust and rest in God’.

While we most likely feel like God is obligated to make all things work together for our good. We also have an obligation to choose to believe the truth of His word. Because our decision to believe, has a major role to play in us living the full life God has called us to enjoy as His children.

Choose to believe God when you ask: 👇🏼📍

“Everyone who asks for something will receive it. Everyone who looks for something will find it. God will open the door for everyone who knocks on it.”

Matthew 7:8 EASY

And,

“So, when you pray to ask God for something, believe in him. Then God will give you whatever you ask for.’”

Matthew 21:22 EASY

Choose to believe that you are forgiven, once you have asked for His forgiveness and don’t go back to sinning. Choose His forgiveness. 👇🏼

“How far is the east from the west? The Lord has taken our sins farther away than that! He no longer says that we are guilty.”

Psalms 103:12 EASY

Lastly, our faith in who God is, is at the center of these choices we make.

God is faithful to keep His promises. Choose faith, Believe Him

Are you still doubting and wondering why you are not receiving, it’s because of this:

“But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.”

James 1:6-8 ESV

Today, choose to believe Him when you ask and seek Him. Choose to draw near to Him. Choose to love God genuinely not because of what you want to receive but because of who He is.

“We know that God works to help those people who love him. He uses everything that happens to them to bring something good. He does this for those people that he has chosen to serve him.”

Romans 8:28 EASY

A heart drawn to God will not miss out of the good He has promised

Finally, dear friend, choose faith. Choose God and choose to love God enough to believe His every word/promises. Even when it doesn’t make sense to you because you are not seeing the manifestation of it just yet. You’ll begin to see it all come together, one piece after the other. And your testimony will begin to unfold. 📍

You are loved. And it’s not too late for you to accept Jesus and be a part of His fold – to be called “son” or “daughter”. 📍

Happy new week. 🤗

This post is great because people need to realize that the choices we make lead to having an eternal life with God or an ever lasting separation from Him.
I hear so many people ask, “ why does God let that happen?” , meaning evil. It’s because God gives us a choice to do right and follow him or to live by this world or worse, let Satan take over. We have the right to choose, and I pray all follow the guidance of God and His Word.
    Lots of love ❤️

A good post Mercy. We chose to place our faith in Him and throughout our walk we have choices that we need to make, big and small ones and they determine how our walk ends up. May we remember that our choices do indeed need have an impact.

  9. We are creatures of choice. For every step/action of faith, man has an active role to play. In Christ, God has blessed us with all spiritual blessings. It then behoves us to walk in our rights and privileges.

  10. Thanks so much for sharing this post. I recently wrote about choices, but the words looked at choices in a general way. I appreciate how you brought the Gospel into a discussion about choices. God continues to lead us when we pay attention to His Word.
