Itβs alarming the extent at which we have series of addictions in our world today.
And to make it more alarming, We have grown so comfortable in it. Yes, it started with a tiny little thing which grew over a while that it now looks like you in reality. But guess what?
That is a lie the enemy wants you to believe. Itβs all there in your mind! And your head is taking it as the real picture.
Have you ever tried the visual simulation game? I havenβt myself, but I have seen reactions of people when they attempt this. Recently, I saw a young girl at a gaming store. And she was all jerking at some point and you can tell she got a scare in the process of watching it. π’
To the girl, it must have seem like she was actually in it. But the reality – she was so not there. It was all in her head. I believe when the helmet is taken off, she might just give it a laugh. π
That right there is what is happening to most of us today. We have put on some helmet the devil has given us freely. Itβs sad we choose to accept his damning free gifts.
βJust because itβs free doesnβt mean it wonβt cost youβ
Mercy Oluokun
The gifts the enemy gives, are never actually free!

So yeah, addiction might have been the word you have sold to yourself all along. Telling yourself that itβs now all a part of you and that you canβt change. Hey, Rain check! That is all a lie. And itβs time for you to get out of that helmet and let your eyes truly see His light!
Reference verse:
βBut to this day whenever Moses is read, a veil [of blindness] lies over their heart; but whenever a person turns [in repentance and faith] to the Lord, the veil is taken away.β
2 Corinthians 3:15-16 AMP
And what is that light that unveils us?
The Holy Spirit!
I was reading a verse stated in a Bible plan, sometime during the week. And He gave me a clearer view of it.
I remember saying to myself βif only people who claim to have an addiction know this truthβ
The verse:
2 Timothy 1:7 AMP
βFor God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control].β
The words that jumped at me was βspirit of power and β¦β¦β¦.SELF CONTROLβ. And what else would you say of someone who is addictive to something? Definitely the word is βA lack of self controlβ.
But here we just read that we have been given His Spirit as Godβs children who has accepted Jesus as Lord and savior. And because we have His Spirit in us – we have βSelf Controlβ

And we do know that the Holy Spirit is the seal of our confession when we accepted Christ.
Text:
βThe Spirit Himself testifies and confirms together with our spirit [assuring us] that we [believers] are children of God.β
Romans 8:16 AMP
Do you now see it in this light? – That the answer you needed to get out of this mess called βAddictionβ has been there all along. Itβs in you. But you need to live in the consciousness of it for you to actually live in its reality.
What illusion are you painting for yourself? Itβs time to break away from it.
Lastly,
βNow the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty [emancipation from bondage, true freedom].β
2 Corinthians 3:17 AMP
You are not only endued with Self Control, you are also endued with Liberty i.e. Freedom.

So yes! You are free and can only be free and live in this freedom if only youβd choose Godβs words and BELIEVE it.
May His word engulf us so much that we never live in the delusion the enemy keeps on creating around us. ππΌ (Amen)
Blessings dear you. π€

Amen! God has given us His Spirit, and by His strength, we can break free of any addiction! Also, I love what you say about free gifts, that it doesn’t mean they won’t cost us. Let us be mindful to see what “gifts” we are accepting.

God has indeed given the His spirit and self control is the fruit of the Holy Spirit.
Nothing the enemy gives us is ever free- it costs us more than we think but always comes initially presented as not very harmful but rather enjoyable.
Loved this post Mercy π

A lot of problems stem from our way of thinking. Addiction is truly one of them. Our mind needs to be captive in Christ.
That illustration of the virtual gaming is really exact.
