Smiles, 2 years ago, God brought me to a place of compulsory rest. I never knew how difficult it can be to truly rest. I mean rest not sleep. 😅
For someone like me that has her head on a active mode both awake and asleep. It can be pretty difficult to truly rest. 🙈
Oh! it wasn’t an easy time for me. But right now I am not only thankful for how far He has taught me to rest but also how far He has grown, and He’s expanding me in it.
I don’t know if this is a similar experience you are in at the moment or a phase He has been calling you into. Maybe it’s time for you to not only settle into it and stop fighting it, but also for you to allow Him teach you His kind of rest.
Whenever I think of rest, these verses comes to mind a lot.
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.””
Matthew 11:28-30 ESV
I imagine God calling out to us in real time, telling us “Mercy (include your name), take my yoke and give me yours, for mine is light”.
I was listening to a short clip recently and the preacher was speaking about this verse as a reference to something he was teaching on. And he said “you can’t afford not to carry something – you either carry God’s yoke that is light or you keep carrying your own burden”. (paraphrased)
The truth is that, this is true. Because each day we have series of decisions to make. Some are easy while some are tough decisions we need to make. As we are constantly faced with a decision to either choose our own will or God’s.
That which is ours is our own thought out plans which really can be a huge burden to us and the latter is His, which is His well laid-out plans but it is light.
Do you know why it is light?
This verse is the anchor for my answer (inspired by Him) to us.
“For it is [not your strength, but it is] God who is effectively at work in you, both to will and to work [that is, strengthening, energizing, and creating in you the longing and the ability to fulfill your purpose] for His good pleasure.”
Philippians 2:13 AMP
I so much love this verse. It delights me to know that whatever it is that is His will for me, God is the one doing the work in me. So I am literarily just lending myself as His Vessel while He fills me up and He pours me out as well.
This is the kind of rest He is calling us to. The type where we defeat the lies of the enemy that says our own well laid-out plan is the best and safe one when we want to choose His, which has been orchestrated from inception.
Really, who will you choose to trust? You – who do not know what will happen in your life in the next few hours or at most next day? Or God – who is the Alpha and Omega and is in control of the entirety of life?
I will leave you to choose and make your decision today.
Remember you are loved by God always and it’s His will for you and I to come to the knowledge of Him.
I pray that your heart will open up today and you will receive His outpouring love today. 🙏🏻
You can say this prayer with me:
Father I have denied the existence of your love towards me all these years. I am sorry I believed the lies of the enemy when I should have believed you.
I ask that you forgive me and help me accept your everlasting love for me.
I accept you as my Lord and savior, Jesus. 🙏🏻
Henceforth I choose your love for me and I will live in this reality. Amen. 🙏🏻

So true that we will indeed carry something and we have to choose it to be Christ’s yoke rather than our own burden of worries etc.
I am learning how to rest in Him, to know the difference in resting but also being active under His guidance and not sitting back.

It is important to give our burdens to Christ, accept His yoke and find rest and peace. I am still a work in progress in taking time to rest.

Amen! Your choices of Scripture encourage us to seek rest through our Lord. The verses in Matthew 11 always fill me with such feelings. May His grace and peace continue to lead you.

Praise the Lord. Matthew 11:28-30 was the verse God gave me to comfort me last week. Takis his yoke upon us and learning from Him, being gentle and lowly, and finding rest in Him.

Genuine rest can be found in Christ alone. It is rest deep within our soul that refreshes even our physical bodies.

Beautiful message! Rest is the hallmark of faith. Seeing into the spirit realm will always confer rest. That was why Jesus could afford to sleep while His disciples were wearing themselves out frantically in a bid to save themselves, but when they invited Him to the situation, He spoke to the storm, and it was calmed.

Earlier this year, the Lord lead me to start taking a day of physical rest each week where I do nothing. It has made a difference. And I am thankful also for the spiritual rest we have through Christ.

I call it my mental health day lol. Since being obedient and taking that day (Sunday)to do nothing, it rejuvenates me for the week ahead. At first it wasn’t easy, after all Sunday is a great day to do stuff like laundry and the store, but I have been blessed by simply resting. And everything still gets done on time, including school work.

Oh Mercy, this is absolutely beautiful! I believe you have powerfully touched on the very heart of God for us in this season — learning to rest in His love. The Scripture from Matthew 11:28-30 are words that keep coming into my life through various people; now, including you, sister! ❤️ I sincerely believe God is up to something so big for all of us who believe. If we try to figure things out right now, we will go crazy!
I also adore how you shared the truth about us fulfilling our purpose and calling. It is the Lord at work in us and through us – not our own striving and vain attempts at ‘success.’ You said it best: we don’t even know what will happen 2 hours from now! How could we possibly know what is right for our lives without direction from Holy Spirit?
