💬 Lord, teach us how to pray! 🙌🏼

Lord teach us how to pray

I was reading a Bible plan on the Lord’s Prayer and while I’m not about to delve into all that was shared. Reading it spurred my reflections on this.

The disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray, not because they didn’t know about prayer. But because they saw Jesus Christ manifesting the power and presence of God even while He was with them in human form. There was that consciousness that there was more to praying than they knew at the time.

“Now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.””

Luke 11:1 ESV

And Jesus seeing their hunger for more, pointed them in the needed direction. First, He taught them to know that God is “Our father”.

So by this, we know that He isn’t one we can’t call upon but one we can always reach out to. Like the word we use “our go-to person” 😊

We pray to God with an open heart because He is our father

He is one who teaches us all things. 🙌🏼

So where am I heading with this?

It was in my reflections that I was reminded that beyond the lines Jesus prayed in the Lord’s Prayer, we have a leverage when it comes to praying as Christians. And that leverage is the Holy Spirit.

He is the very gift Jesus promised us that will be with us, to the very end. The very representation of the father in us as sons and daughters of God. 💃🏻

Have you ever been in a fix on how best to pray about a situation or a dilemma you are faced with? And in that moment, you open your heart up before the Lord, asking Him: “Holy Spirit help me to pray aright”. With an open heart you start praying, and you eventually end up with a relief in your mind and maybe a release of emotions too – possibly crying and letting it out or even dancing with no care of who is watching you.

This has happened to me a lot of times and that relief and joy one feels after praying with His help, is the leverage we have in all the situations we face. 💯

Jesus also mentioned this in the word, that He has given us a comforter who will teach us in all truth. And one of such truth is Him helping us to tackle the situation we are facing by pointing us in the right direction. Causing His divine intervention to flow to the root of that situation and with this we have victory.

“When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.”

John 16:13 ESV

It’s a blessing unto us, knowing that when we pray, we won’t pray amiss because we have access to the very heart of the father (God) on everything bothering us. And in Him, we can pray the right way hence winning the battle on all fronts. 🙌🏼

“Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”

Romans 8:26-28 ESV

He intercedes for us when we pray, and that causes all things to work together for our good. Because we are praying with the mind of the father on these petitions. 🙌🏼

The Holy Spirit is your leverage

Dear friend, don’t lose sight of the leverage you have in Christ Jesus. Your prayers and mine, shouldn’t be a near miss but spot-on. 📍

Father, teach us how to pray aright. Amen 🙏🏻

Do have a blessed week, dear friend. 🤗

I know that feeling of asking the Holy Spirit to help you pray. At other times when I am at a loss for words I just say Lord, I don’t know what to say, my heart is heavy, help me please. And I find that it helps ease my soul in a way that only God can.
    Blessings to you Mercy 💙
