Many times we have felt hurt by the action of someone or people that are close to us. And this most times hits us deeply, when compared to the times someone we do not know does the same to us.
One of the ways that God has and is helping me to let go. And to choose forgiveness even when my head is trying to get a better understanding of the “why” (why the other party or parties acted in such manner), are these words He told me- “Remember that humans are still fallible and I am the only one infallible”. The first time He told me this, my head tried to get a full understanding of what this actually meant. Thankfully, He explained it to me and it was simple. 👇🏼
“Humans are capable of failing and hence can fail you, but I am the only one who is incapable of failing hence I can’t fail you.”
It helped me simmer down a bit from the way I felt at the time, and I prayed for His help to help me choose forgiveness and let it go.
Letting go didn’t happen in split seconds for me, but it eventually did. And after sometime I could recall the incidence and choose calm both in my demeanor and at heart.
It’s not always easy to let go. Especially when the hurt came from people we wouldn’t have expected to act in such a way. It’s like a jab thrown at us suddenly and we are wondering “why you?, of all people” or “you should understand me better than this” etc. But the sad truth is this – women, men, people generally are capable of failing. Hence, it’s time for us to let down our high expectations of people. And instead bear it in our minds that the only one incapable of failing us is God. Place that premium, undeterred trust in God and watch Him act on your behalf.
It’s really a call for you and I to decide to place our high expectations on God instead and not on men. We are so frail in our ways as humans. For example, on some days we want to render help but our strength or resources might not allow it at the time.
So instead of living a life full of hurts and disappointments, it’s time for us to choose the pathway to calm. And that is, letting go.
Failing to forgive can rob us of many things and our blessings, because we have refused to let go and move forward from the hurt. Your peace is of utmost importance. Don’t lose sight of it because you placed your trust on man when you should in the God who upholds your lot. He has preserved it without failing these past years and He is not about to fail you now either.
I’ll leave you with these verses:
“Yahweh, you alone are my inheritance. You are my prize, my pleasure, and my portion. You hold my destiny and its timing in your hands.”
Psalms 16:5 TPT
“The Lord is my chosen and assigned portion, my cup; You hold and maintain my lot.”
Psalm 16:5 AMPC
And,
“If we are faithless [do not believe and are untrue to Him], He remains true (faithful to His Word and His righteous character), for He cannot deny Himself.”
2 Timothy 2:13 AMPC
He isn’t just consistent to show up for us, He is also incapable of failing us. It’s time to redirect our expectations on the God that can never fail you!

You are right inasmuch as it can be difficult to let go, we do get hurt and hold onto things some of which are unhealthy for us.
I agree totally with your thoughts about God and his love for us, 1 of my favourite scriptures is found in the book of Psalms, ” When I stumbled, your unfailing love O Lord supported me” Psalms 94 very 18.
I place my trust in God, his grace and infinite wisdom and love for me.

Only the Lord is truly dependable. Everyone else as you said are fallible and will eventually let us down. And even though it might hurt, we remember that we too fail and so require to extend grace to others as much as we need to be extended the same.

Letting go can be a challenge but with God’s help we can do it. As you mentioned, He is the only one we can fully depend on. People in our lives are a blessing but only God is perfect.

Humans are prone to failure. God failed when Adam and Eve disobeyed Him in the garden by the deception of the devil. His original for humanity was affected. But God never gives up. He came up with another plan to restore man to His original plan and design. That was why Jesus came to die for our sin to redeem us. Failure is not a final bus stop; it’s a stepping stone to success. Fail and fail well. The more failure you have the closer you are to succeed. When you fail. Try something else. The story of Thomas Edison can be a source of inspiration.
However, I agreed that human beings are not reliable. God is more reliable and dependable than God. Only God can be trusted.

We are always doing ourselves a favor when we let go… There’s no other way to live better; letting go is something that we must work at until it becomes very easy for us: I have the grace to let go, my mind is conditioned to quickly let go…

Forgiveness is not always easy. Sometimes we have to ask Jesus to help us forgive.
One note of caution- If the person offending is someone we are not safe around, forgiveness not not mean forgetting and ignoring. It means releasing the person to God and moving on with our lives.

I’ve thought about how having high expectations on people really can cause great disappointment within us before, because like you say, people are fallible, and so are we. Keeping this in mind allows us to have grace for others, I believe, and grace is something we all need.
